Mara® Shield Liquid Coatings.
The Smart Alternative to Film Lamination
The Mara Shield line of UV Liquid Coatings raise quality, safe time and money compared to conventional film lamination. Our Liquid Coatings can be used as primers, for finishing, as a protective coating or for coloring.
- Low material costs, as liquid coatings are cheaper than laminating films
- Fast roller coating process saves process costs
- Specialized products for various applications
- Suitable for outdoor use

Substrates:
- PVC, rigid
- ABS
- Polycarbonate (PC)
- Polyester (PETG)
- Acrylic glass (PMMA)
- Self-adhesive PVC foil
- PVC, soft
- Wood
- Aluminum composite panels (Dibond®)
- Paper, corrugated paper
- To find the suitable Liquid Coating for your substrate, please check the Technical Data Sheet in Downloads
Highlights:
- Liquid Coatings are considerably less expensive than laminating films, depending on material and application
- Liquid Coating by means of roller coating eliminates the need for time-intensive post-print cutting
- Products specifically designed for each application instead of an average all-purpose coating
- Machine application for industrial and reproducible quality – on rigid and flexible substrates
- Provided a high-grade sandwich combination of film, ink and coating
- Whether glossy or matte, our coatings provide complete and even coverage without “orange peel effect”
- Mara® Shield UV-RM Rigid Matt, Protective varnish for rigid materials
- Mara® Shield UV-FXM Flexible Matt, Matte coating for flexible materials
- Mara® Shield UV-RG Rigid Gloss, Protective varnish for rigid materials
- Mara® Shield UV-PGL Primer f. Glass, Primer for strong adhesion of printing ink on flatt glass
- Mara® Shield UV-FXG Flexible Gloss, High-gloss coating for flexible materials
- Mara® Shield UV-AG Anti-Graffiti, High-performance anti-graffiti liquid coating

MaraShield UV-RM protective varnish is suitable for roller-coating onto digital prints on rigid materials such as various plastics, wood, aluminium composite panels (Dibond®), and cardboard and corrugated board material.

MaraShield UV-FXM is a protective varnish suitable for roller-coating onto digital prints on flexible materials such as self-adhesive PVC foils and tarpaulin materials (plasticised PVC). High-gloss (FXG) or matte (FXM) coating.

MaraShield UV-RG protective varnish is suitable for roller-coating onto digital prints on rigid materials such as various plastics, wood, aluminium composite panels (Dibond®), and cardboard and corrugated board material.

UV inkjet inks often do not adhere sufficiently to difficult substrates such as glass.
The homogeneous application of the Mara® Shield UV-PGL primer enables strong ink adhesion and thus significantly expands the range of applications for a UV flatbed printer.

MaraShield UV-FXG is a protective varnish suitable for roller-coating onto digital prints on flexible materials such as self-adhesive PVC foils and tarpaulin materials (plasticised PVC). High-gloss (FXG) or matte (FXM) coating.

Applied using roller coating, MaraShield UV-AG ensures that any soiling or graffiti
can be removed easily, without harming the advertisements´s original printed surface.

Post-curing times (22 °C / 55 % RH):
- Rigid UV inks: ≥ 24 h
- Hybrid/flexible UV inks: 3–4 days
- Hybrid/flexible UV prints: can be coated immediately if additional UV curing is applied
- Solvent-based prints: waiting time ≥ 24 h
- UV curing with 1–2 medium-pressure mercury lamps (80–120 W/cm)
- Conveyor speed: 5–20 m/min
- Dark designs (250–400 % ink coverage) require higher curing energy
Accelerated curing:
- Oven: 140 °C / 30 min (after cooling)
- IR conveyor dryer: e.g. 140 °C / 30 sec (after 8 h)
Printing parameters:
- Roller‑coater settings adapted to application and production speed
- Proven speed ratio application/metering roller: 4:1
- Approx. 5 min pre-run to reach target viscosity
- Coating thickness depends on roller type, gap, pressure, and speed
- Chemical and mechanical resistance increase with coating thickness
