MARABU PROJECT GREEN
Our responsibility as a chemical company for people and the environment.
"As an ink manufacturer, we are part of the chemical industry and therefore have a great responsibility for environmental protection and health and safety – both within our company and at our customers' premises. Going above and beyond what is required by law has been firmly anchored in our corporate philosophy for many years and is part of our daily commitment."
YORK BOEDER, CEO OF MARABU
Do your customers expect sustainability? So do ours. More and more companies are demanding meaningful ratings on social and environmental responsibility along their supply chain. Marabu has been proactively and consistently addressing this challenge for years.

As part of the world's leading sustainability rating, our Tamm site is regularly assessed in four categories: environment, labor & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
Marabu has received continuous recognition since 2019 – currently with EcoVadis Bronze – and is thus among the top 35% of all companies assessed.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) evaluates climate strategies and emissions transparency worldwide.
Marabu participates voluntarily – and is constantly improving:
In 2024, we made the leap from category D to C. Clear proof of our active environmental management.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in numerous certifications for our processes, locations, and products. Examples include ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications for our global quality and environmental management systems. Our products are certified according to Oeko-Tex, EcoPassport, FSC, and other standards, and meet the highest sustainability requirements.
Our path to lower emissions: As a partner of the Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance, Marabu supports a clear course toward reducing emissions. As part of Project Green, we are working to significantly reduce our CO₂ emissions by 2032 (based on 2021/22):
Scope 1: –42% (e.g. district heating, exhaust gas purification)
Scope 2: 0% (100% green electricity already implemented)
Scope 3: –19% (e.g., recycling packaging, less air transport)
Overall goal: –20% CO₂ emissions in ten years.
We are taking action: As a member of the German Varnish and Printing Ink Industry Association (VdL), Marabu is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – focusing on the five goals that are particularly relevant to our industry.
At Marabu, sustainability is not just an image campaign, but an integral part of our daily decisions.
Our environmental management follows clearly defined principles:
Environmental protection is integrated into all business processes.
We develop low-emission, water-based systems.
Substituting hazardous substances wherever possible.
Less consumption, more circular economy.
Environmental performance is assessed based on data.
Every new purchase is assessed for its environmental impact.
Internal training, external openness.
At Marabu, we combine innovative ink technology with consistent sustainability. We develop ink systems for every application that meet the highest environmental standards – tested and certified by internationally recognized programs. Many of our solutions actively contribute to resource conservation, energy efficiency, and the protection of people and the environment. This is how we strike a balance between quality, performance, and ecological standards.
Whether energy-saving UV LED inks, pollutant-tested textile printing inks, or creative products based on FSC certification, our inks and colors already meet tomorrow's requirements today.

At Marabu, sustainability begins in the factory: Marabu continuously invests in modern technologies to responsibly combine production and environmental protection. By renewing central processes, we focus on energy-efficient solutions, closed cycles, and systems that conserve resources and significantly reduce emissions.
An essential part of this development is the Babylon investment project: by 2027, we will have modernized and expanded our Tamm site at a cost of around ten million euros. “Our market continues to grow, and we want to grow with it at our Tamm site,” emphasizes CEO York Boeder. This includes, among other things, a new exhaust air purification system that reduces gas consumption by around 50 percent and solvent emissions by around 90 percent.
In this way, we are creating a production system that is committed to ecological, sustainable, and reliably high quality and environmental standards.
Modern systems increase performance while reducing energy consumption, thereby lowering the amount of energy used per kilogram produced.
Our distillation plant recovers solvents directly during the process. This keeps them in circulation, reducing emissions and saving resources.
Optimized processes reduce cleaning cycles and significantly cut waste as well as water and material consumption.
The new plant enables precise dosing, thereby reducing raw material consumption.
