Marabu Crackle Medium is a colorless medium for the crackle varnish technique. This thin, waterbased medium creates crackle patterns in applied paint, giving objects an antique or vintage look.

1. Only paint on surfaces that are dry, dust-free, and grease-free.
2. Thoroughly cover the work area.
3. Prime the object with Marabu Decormatt or Marabu Decorlack. Use a hair dryer to dry.
4. Stir the crackle medium thoroughly before use.
5. Apply the medium evenly over the primed surface. Dry with a hair dryer.
6. Quickly apply Decormatt or Decorlack over the medium; the crackle effect will appear immediately. Allow it to dry for at least one hour.
7. Clean the tools used with water.

Provides optimal adhesion to dry, dust-free, and grease-free surfaces.
You can also achieve the crackle effect without primer. Simply start with the crackle medium.
The thicker the top coat of paint, the larger the cracks will be. For fine cracks, apply the paint thinly.
The direction in which the top coat of paint is applied influences the crackle effect. Vertical strokes produce vertical and horizontal cracks, while circular strokes produce cloud-like effects.
If some cracks become too large, paint them over again with crackle medium and the appropriate paint to achieve finer cracks.
Only apply the top coat of paint once. Painting over wet paint would destroy the crackle effect.
Metallic and pearlescent tones are not suitable for crackling; no cracks will form.
