This symbol indicates that the product contains microplastics, as defined in Annex XVII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH). Examples of microplastics include glitter and synthetic resin particles.
All Marabu products bearing this symbol contain microplastics. During the drying process, these particles are incorporated into a solid film and therefore remain harmless on the painted surface. However, care should be taken to ensure that microplastics do not enter the water cycle.
See below for guidance on cleaning painting tools and handling empty packaging to prevent the release of microplastics into the environment.
Cleaning brushes, painting knives and paint rollers:
Used brushes, painting knives and paint rollers should first be wiped thoroughly with a kitchen towel. Dispose of the towel in the general waste. To remove any remaining paint from the bristles of brushes and sponge rollers, fill an old container with water and rinse the pre-cleaned painting tools in it. Then wipe them down once more with a clean paper towel. Leave the cleaning water in the container to dry, then dispose of it. Alternatively, keep the container for next time.
Special note regarding Marabu easy marble Marbling Paint:
Remove any dried paint residue from the surface of the water with a piece of paper and dispose of it in the general waste. The cleaned marbling water can then be poured down the drain.
Cleaning painting palettes:
Wipe them down with a paper towel and dispose of the towel in the general waste.
Disposal of empty packaging:
Do not rinse containers marked with the 'Contains microplastics' pictogram under running water. Leave any remaining paint to dry with the lid open, then dispose of the container in accordance with the relevant recycling scheme.
